Renovation

Of the Carmelite Monastery in Sweden

Now an extensive renovation is needed of the monastery building.

The renovation of the roof is completed with financial support from many generous donors.

Much remains. Due to the incorrect construction of the concrete in the 1960s, the façade must be repaired. A high percentage of poisonous PCB was also found in the joints of the façade, and this has to be cleaned up as soon as possible.

The chapel will be renovated and remodeled.

A new infirmary will be built for the elderly sisters in the community.

In the outer part of the monastery an adaptation of the facilities for disabled people will be made.

How it will look like after the renovation is completed

All gifts are welcome and will be received with great gratitude.

At the moment we have about 75 000 euros for the renovation. We need about 3 million euros to complete the whole renovation.

“Let nothing disturb you,
Let nothing frighten you,
All things are passing away:
God never changes.
Patience obtains all things.
Whoever has God lacks nothing;
God alone suffices.”

Santa Teresa de Jesús

The Carmelite monastery in Rydebäck was the first monastery officially established in Sweden after the reformation. A group of nuns came from Belgium to Sweden in 1956. The monastery was completed and inaugurated in 1963. The monastery is consecrated to God´s Merciful Love and to St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus.
